PureRef, the image referencing tool, has received its first update since the release of PureRef 2.0 in 2024. This version refines existing features and adds new functionality aimed at streamlining the creative workflow. Key improvements include tools for layout, drawing, project management, and image handling, alongside expanded language support.

The update introduces a background grid that allows items to snap automatically, even when the grid is hidden. The grid can be displayed in either a classic line or dotted style.

The drawing tool has also been improved and now supports shape functionality, including rectangles, circles, straight lines, and freehand drawing.

Returning to work has been made more efficient with thumbnail overviews of recent projects, access to the last edited date, and the ability to pin frequently used projects for quicker access.

Image management has been enhanced with batch optimization tools for individual scenes. Users can adjust resolutions non-destructively, change formats, and trim borders to reduce file size. Images can be embedded or linked within a scene, and previews are available before optimizations are applied. Some optimizations can also be applied automatically when adding images to a scene.

Accessibility has also been a focus of this release, with the addition of six languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), French, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

Other additions include a command that distributes images randomly, simplifying the task of manually arranging them or providing a basis for manual arrangement. The update also adds support for rich text in comments, a command to open the current scene in the file explorer, a duplicate selection command, and several other enhancements and bug fixes.
