UModeler was first launched in 2017 as a Unity asset, allowing developers to create 3D models directly inside the Unity Editor without relying on external software such as Blender or Maya. It quickly became a popular tool for prototyping, level design, and low-poly modeling. By 2018, it had established itself as one of the best-selling modeling solutions on the Unity Asset Store.
In 2019, development began on UModeler X, aimed at delivering higher performance and greater extensibility. After an open beta in 2023, it was officially released with a standalone, perpetual Plus edition on the Unity Asset Store.
The original UModeler allowed users to model directly in Unity and preview results instantly in-game. It offered SketchUp-style modeling, where shapes could be drawn and pulled into 3D, and included more than 50 modeling tools for real-time editing and detailed low-poly work. It also simplified complex UV unwrapping, making the tool more accessible to users with little to no experience with 3D software.
UModeler X Plus built on this foundation, adding support for high-poly modeling as well as painting and rigging capabilities. Earlier this year, Pro and Enterprise versions were introduced as subscription plans designed for professional teams. Most recently, a Pro Personal plan has been added for individual creators and small teams, available to users with total revenue or funding under $200,000 USD over the past 12 months.
These new subscription plans mark a shift in UModeler's approach. Instead of focusing solely on perpetual assets, the company is moving toward a subscription-based model with continuous updates. Importantly, subscriptions also include a perpetual fallback license. After purchasing an annual plan or maintaining 12 consecutive months of payments, users retain access to the version active at the end of their subscription.

Versions still available on the Unity Asset Store appear to have become legacy options, with upgrade discounts offered for existing users moving to Pro Personal or Pro editions of UModeler X. Beyond regular updates and early access to new tools, the new plans introduce exclusive features such as Curve Mesh, Text Tool, Remesher, UV Relax, and more. Compared to Pro Personal, the Pro plan also includes $700 USD worth of 3D templates and removes the annual revenue limit, while the Enterprise plan adds team license management and dedicated technical support.
