RizomUV 2025 is now available, marking another important update to this UV mapping software. For those unfamiliar, RizomUV is a standalone application that can be used alongside tools such as Blender or Maya, providing an efficient workflow for creating UV maps. It also supports bridge plugins that help streamline the transfer of models. The 2025 release focuses on giving artists more control while improving the stability and reliability of the software.
The new GPU Packing system is the standout feature of RizomUV 2025. Rebuilt from the ground up for GPU processing, this system is more robust and resolves persistent overlap issues, particularly with stacked islands. While speed wasn't the primary focus, users can typically expect performance gains of 3-4x and 2-4% higher tile coverage, depending on the GPU.
The new system handles complex, concave, and interleaved island shapes efficiently, especially with fewer islands. It also excels in extreme cases, packing over 500,000 islands into a single tile in under a minute on modern GPUs.

Close up of +273,000 islands packed in less than a minute on a NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 4K map. Zero overlaps.
Other long-requested features, according to Rizom-Lab, include the Scene Outliner and the ability to save defaults across sessions. The Scene Outliner shows the object hierarchy, making it easy to hide, reveal, or isolate objects. Saving defaults retains UI preferences and model properties across sessions, and these settings can be reset to their factory defaults at any time.
The release also adds a rebuilt algorithm for aligning UV islands based on their original 3D orientation for more accurate results. Islands from groups can now be automatically packed into tiles, improving multi-tile or UDIM (U-Dimension) workflows.
Selection tools are improved as well, allowing seamless switching between vertex, edge, and polygon selections with two conversion modes: Fill and Border.
Other improvements include a range of refinements across the interface, selection tools, and workflow, resulting in a smoother and more user-friendly experience.
