Ramatak Mobile Studio, the "Godot engine for mobile game development" has received an update. This new pre-release version brings the software one step closer to its full release.
The update introduces integration with two major ad networks, Admob and Meta. An abstraction API that works across both of these ad providers enables seamless transition between them without the need for project modifications. Additionally, it's possible to mix and match these different ad networks based on the specific locations within your application where the ads are placed.
Other key changes include rendering performance improvements and fixes targeted for mobile platforms. Several major visual glitches that occurred with shadows have been fixed. These occurred when using more than one directional light per scene. There is now also an option to render 3 directional cascades instead of 4, which can reduce the time needed for shadow passes by up to 20%.
The introduction of Resolution Scaling makes it possible to render resource intensive 3D content at a lower resolution while maintaining full resolution for 2D elements and user interface.
This is particularly useful for scenes constrained by rasterization performance, especially on mobile devices with high dpi displays. The feature was implemented without the need for resizing render buffers. As a result, you can dynamically adjust the scale in real-time without experiencing performance hiccups.
The engine's built-in profiler now includes information about GPU performance in addition to CPU performance, achieved through timer_query extensions. This enhancement applies to both desktop and mobile platforms. While the information provided by this method may not cover every detail, it will help identify any possible rendering bottlenecks.
An Android signing key manager has also been integrated directly into the editor, making it straightforward to generate and manage your debug and release keys.
Other highlight features in this release include full compatibility with Godot 3.5.1, automatically configured and continuously updated Android SDKs, and “A fresh new coat of paint” in the words of the developers.
