Zibra AI has announced ZibraGDS, with GDS standing for Geometry Data Structure. This is a new Unreal Engine plugin designed to bring massive geometry sequences into Unreal Engine and render them in real-time.

Currently in closed alpha, details about the plugin remain limited, but a teaser video showcases its potential. It demonstrates how high-poly animation sequences can be rendered more efficiently, with ZibraGDS achieving much higher frame rates and enabling scenes that would otherwise be impractical.

ZibraGDS Teaser: Introducing Real-Time Geometry Without Limits

The plugin combines advanced compression techniques with modern GPU pipelines to address the limitations of Unreal Engine's Geometry Cache and Vertex Animation Texture (VAT), which can be constrained by bandwidth and frame/vertex count.

According to Zibra AI, ZibraGDS can handle millions of polygons in real-time while being faster and more memory-efficient than Unreal's built-in solutions. It also supports complex effects such as destruction, cloth, liquids, and soft bodies.

ZibraGDS has also been designed to work in tandem with ZibraVDB, a solution for compressing volumetric effects stored in the OpenVDB format, now available with a free personal license.

Currently exclusive to Unreal Engine, the plugin functions both as a compression tool and a high-performance real-time renderer. It supports importing Alembic files, with USD and other formats planned for future updates. Support for other engines and DCC tools may be added later, though Unity support is not currently planned.

Interested users can join the waitlist for alpha access on the ZibraGDS product page.
