Epic Games has released TechAudioTools Content, a free content extension designed to streamline MetaSound workflows in Unreal Engine. The extension includes a collection of editor utilities and reusable widgets that were developed and used internally at Epic Games.
The toolset consists of a MetaSound Input Migrator, MetaSound Metadata Editor, and SoundGenerator.
The MetaSound Input Migrator enables the migration of default input values between MetaSound assets by explicitly linking source and destination inputs.
The MetaSound Metadata Editor allows users to view and edit a MetaSound document and pin metadata within a single interface. It supports display names, descriptions, advanced pin flags, and drag-and-drop pin reordering.
The SoundGenerator is a synthesizer built using MetaSound primitives and is primarily intended for creating sci-fi and abstract sounds. It demonstrates a solid, workhorse synth architecture that provides both conventional synth capabilities and more experimental possibilities. The SoundGenerator enables rapid sound iteration and exploration and supports rendering generated sounds to audio files.
The extension also includes the editor widgets and viewmodels used to build these tools. These components are intended to be extended or serve as building blocks for custom audio tooling.
TechAudioTools Content is currently available for Unreal Engine 5.7 and, according to Epic Games, it will continue to receive periodic updates. It requires the TechAudioTools and UMG Viewmodel engine plugins to be enabled in the project.
