DroneCam is a new Blender add-on developed by 3D artist and add-on creator globglob. It allows users to control a camera like a drone using a gamepad, eliminating the need for manual animation when creating aerial shots. Users can add a drone to the scene, click record, fly around, and render the final footage, which closely mimics real-life drone videos.
In addition to being a fun add-on for Blender, DroneCam can also be very useful for game development. It allows developers to create professional-looking aerial views for intro/outro sequences or cinematic cutscenes, helping to set the tone or establish a game's world. It can also be used to create flythroughs of pre-rendered environments for promotional materials, trailers, and more.
DroneCam provides adjustable settings for features such as power, drag, gravity, and camera tilt, allowing users to fine-tune camera movement. The add-on uses physics simulations powered by Blender's Geometry Nodes and incorporates a modified version of Erindale's XinputReader, a Python library that enables gamepad support with XInput. Because XinputReader is designed for Blender on Windows, the add-on is currently compatible with the Windows version of Blender only.
DroneCam is now available under a "name your own price" model. For more information, visit the DroneCam product page on Gumroad.
